Greyson Chance has come out as a gay man! On Wednesday, the American singer-songwriter took to social media to share his story in hopes to inspire other people who are still afraid of embracing their sexuality. At the age of 16, the musician has already recognized that he was gay. Chance, however, thought it was best to conceal his sexuality to keep his private life away from the limelight.
Greyson on coming out as gay
The 19-year-old singer said he was lacking the confidence to come out when he finally realized that he was gay. In fact, Chance admitted that he did not have the confidence to accept his sexuality and thought that it was best for him to focus his attention on far more interesting things.
The "Waiting Outside the Lines" artist revealed he was inspired to come out after a "brave individual" messaged him with words of advice. Although he acknowledged that it took him a while to decide on publicizing his sexuality, Chance encouraged those who are still hiding in the closet to find courage in embracing who they are.
"I encourage anyone who is navigating their sexuality to devote as much time as they need to the process of finding self-confidence, self-acceptance, and self-love," he wrote.
The singer ended his message by assuring his family and friends that he is happy and proud of his decision to finally come out after years of hiding.
