After the “R+L=J” theory was partly proven when Lyanna Stark was revealed as Jon Snow’s mother in the “Game of Thrones” Season 6 finale, it seems that another fan theory will be answered this season. This time around, fans of both the book series and the television show are expecting to find out who the new incarnation of the legendary warrior Azor Ahai is. In the second episode of “Game of Thrones” Season 7 entitled “Stormborn,” The Red Woman made an appearance and referenced a prophecy about the savior of the Seven Kingdoms.

The Prince That Was Promised

It can be recalled that in “Game of Thrones” Season 7 Episode 2, the Red Woman Melisandre finally made it to Dragonstone to pay her respects to her new queen. After being rejected by Jon Snow even after bringing him back to life, she is now hedging her bets on another contender for the throne – the Mother Of Dragons, Daenerys Targaryen.

In their first meeting, Melisandre explained why she thought that Daenerys was the Lord of the Light’s pick for the throne. She shared the prophecy about the prince that was promised – “When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone.”

For many years, fans believed that Azor Ahai was a man, specifically Jon Snow, because of the reference to Prince.

However, Missandei, Daenerys’ most loyal confidante and interpreter, shed light on the theory once and for all. It turns out that in High Valyrian, the language used in “Game of Thrones,” nouns are not gender specific so the prophecy could refer to a prince or princess, making Dany a perfect contender for the part.

The fated meeting

For months, the buzz has been high that Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen will meet and possibly form an alliance in “Game of Thrones” Season 7. It can be recalled that many fans believe that “The Prince That Was Promised” could still be the current King in the North because he has the blood of both Fire (Targaryen) and Ice (Stark) in reference to the books.

The meeting will take place, and it will be interesting to see whether Daenerys agrees to help Jon in his crusade against the Night King. It can be recalled that Dany has been dealt a heavy blow with the loss of both Ellaria Sand and Yara Greyjoy in an ambush by Euron Greyjoy. The next episode is expected to revolve around Cersei and how she will deal with Ellaria, who poisoned her daughter, and Yara, who joined up with Daenerys instead of pledging loyalty to her.
