Angelina Jolie has refuted the report by Vanity Fair about the audition procedure on her new film. The mother of six said she is upset about how she has been characterized by the magazine’s cover story, due to an alleged controversial Casting Process for her upcoming movie “First They Killed My Father.”
The actress, who is now venturing into creating her own films, have found it upsetting how she has been called out for something that was simply taken out of context.
She has assured everyone, especially the families of the children who auditioned for the movie and all the others concerned, that there were no indicators of mental or emotional discomfort done during the assessment of their talents.

In the cover story, the author discussed that Angelina Jolie, along with her casting associates for the movie “First They Killed My Father” have put children, who were from Cambodia in an unfortunate scene during auditions.
According to Variety, the cover story indicated that money was placed on the table and allowed the children auditioning to take it.
Once they decided to take it, the children were “caught” and were allegedly forced to explain their reasons for taking the money. One child purportedly got intensely emotional and said that she needed the money for her grandfather’s funeral, as indicated in the cover story.
'Misconstrued by the media'
After the particular news was brought to the public, Jolie has then cleared herself and her casting associates from what was described. According to the actress, it was a pretend exercise for an improvisation from a specific scene from the film.
Jolie was definitely upset by the allegations and according to her, had it been true, she would have been upset and outraged with herself as well. She has assured that whatever has taken place during auditions, casting and the like have been conducted and the safety of the children has been of great importance.
Rest assured, the scene depicted during the auditions was part of the film and should not be construed as a real scenario that the children have been placed in. Jolie has clarified that the film is made to bring attention to all sorts of horror that children get to face in the midst of a war.
The upcoming movie “First They Killed My Father” is based on the book by Loung Ung, of the same title. The story is about the survival of the author during the Pol Pot regime. The upcoming film will be released on Netflix this September.
