“Bad Boys 3” production was delayed due to Joe Carnahan vacating the director’s chair. Michael Bay, director of “Bad Boys” and “Bad Boys Ii,” said that if the production will not start soon, the film will end up getting canceled. Martin Lawrence and Will Smith will become too old for the movie, Bay said referring to the duo’s roles.
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence to reprise roles
They both played narcotic detectives in the first two movies. Will Smith played Mike Lowry and Martin Lawrence played Marcus Burnett, both fighters against the Mafia. They will reprise their roles in the third movie. According to Bay, if the delay will take too long, the two lead actors may become retired cops instead of active-duty cops, reports ScreenRant. Undeniably, they are aging and further delays may render them unfit for their roles.
The third movie, also known as “Bad Boys for Life”, may not materialize because, as of now, no director has replaced Carnahan.
Bay firmly says that he will not go back to the franchise. His hands were full with his latest film “Transformers: The Last Knight”, which will be released on June 21 in seven countries.
“Bad Boys for Life” was originally slated to be released June of this year, but it was moved to January 2018. The release date is now unsure as it was pushed back again to November 2018. The “The A-Team” helmer has left the franchise due to schedule conflicts. Smith’s “Suicide Squad” filming has also contributed to the delay of the movie.
Will Smith may cause delays again
Those fans that have waited for 14 years for a new outing have to wait a little longer. Now Jaden Smith's father is circling Disney’s “Dumbo.” The Tim Burton-directed movie will again pull out Smith from the production set.
Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have limited movie projects lately. Smith played supporting role in “Suicide Squad.” His last blockbuster movie was “Men in Black 3.” When “Bad Boys” was released in 1995, it was commercially successful earning $141.4 and “Bad Boys II” earned $273 million. Judging from the two performances, the movie has a high probability of becoming a blockbuster.
Originally, a fourth movie was about to be filmed right after "Bad Boys 3", however, due to the delays, the fourth movie has no release date fixed. Originally, it was set for May 24, 2019, but was postponed again. Despite the delays, the producers are not giving up on the movie.
