A few days ago, Universal Pictures officially announced that it is developing a new film “Dark Universe.” But the studio did not confirm who is going to play the leading roles; and now, it says that Dwayne Johnson and Angelina Jolie are in talks for the main characters. “Dark Universe” is a Marvel Studio-like project of shared universe movies that will crossover some of its horror films, including “The Mummy.”

The new film to encompass other projects

Set to include other films such as “The Invisible Man,” “Dr. Jekyll,” “Creature from the Black Lagoon,” “Frankenstein’s Monster” and “Bride of Frankenstein,” “Dark Universe” will give tough competition to other Hollywood blockbusters.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that it is the seventh film in the franchise; Dwayne Johnson and Angelina Jolie are being eyed to star in the movie. However, there is no information about whether the two celebrities have accepted the movie offer or not.

In addition to “Dark Universe,” Johnson is set to play a titular monster in a “Wolfman” reboot. Previously, the actor played Scorpion King in 2002 blockbuster “The Mummy Returns.” Also, “Bride of Frankenstein” has been given February 14, 2019, release date. The Hollywood Reporter says that Angelina will play the leading role in this film, and the success of “Dark Universe” solely depends on how well she performs.

Johnson and Jolie in the news

Dwayne Johnson and Angelina Jolie are in the headlines these days due to their negotiations with Universal about the “Dark Universe” films.

Universal Pictures is currently busy with the international promotions of “The Mummy,” a monster film directed by Alex Kurtzman and based on a Christopher McQuarrie film of the same name.

“The Mummy” stars Tom Cruise, Jake Johnson, Sofia Boutella, Courtney Vance, Russell Crowe, and Annabelle Wallis. It is set to release on June 9, 2017.

Meanwhile, the studio is looking to cast Dwayne as The Wolfman and Angelina as the Bride of Frankenstein within its “Dark Universe.” While the nether star is officially signed, they have been pursued for several weeks. Universal Pictures claims that Angelina played a similar role on 2015 film “By the Sea,” so she may agree to play a titular Bride in coming days.

Dwayne Johnson, on the other hand, was cast in “The Mummy Returns.” Universal Pictures launched his career in the Hollywood industry, so he should accept the proposal of another Universal film.

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the budget for future “Dark Universe” films may not be the same ($125-$135 million) as Universal Pictures want to produce smaller-budgeted films in the coming months. Let’s wait and watch whether Dwayne and Angelina accept the “Dark Universe” proposal or not!
