When Sony announced that they were partnering with Marvel and Disney to co-produce "Spider-Man: Homecoming," it seemed to reboot the entire property. However, it turns out only Spider-Man is going to Marvel but Sony is keeping the rest of the Spider-Man universe to themselves. This was revealed when Sony announced they were making a "Venom" movie and now they have also announced the movie "Silver And Black" and named the director for that film.

"Silver and Black"

Starting with "Silver and Black," the movie will be a female-led superhero movie featuring the characters Silver Sable and Black Cat.

The first announcement involved the hiring of Gina Prince-Bythewood ("The Secret Life of Bees"), which is a nice move as female directors are getting a better chance to helm these big superhero blockbusters.

Most casual comic book readers know who Black Cat is. Felicia Hardy was a cat burglar who had a major romantic crush on Spider-Man for many years. She has since reformed and works as a detective type character in the Marvel Comics universe.

Silver Sable is a lesser known character outside of regular comic book readers. Silver Sable is the daughter of a former Nazi hunter who used to work with Wolverine. After the death of her mother, her father trained her and she continued to follow in his footsteps and hunts down super villains with the Silver Sable International Corporation.

According to plot rumors, Silver Sable's father was killed by two Spider-Man villains (The Scorpion and Tarantula) and that sets her off on her career. The Government hires her to capture Black Cat, who they claim stole valuable secret information.

While there is no Spider-Man, rumors indicate that Norman Osborn is still the main villain hovering over the universe.

Also rumored are Kraven the Hunter, Spider-Woman, and The Chameleon. "Silver and Black" is set for an October 2018 release.

"Venom"

The only real news on the "Venom" movie is that Tom Hardy (who played Bane in Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" movies) will portray Venom. The movie is directed by Ruden Fleischer ("Zombieland") and also will not include Spider-Man in any way in the movie (although there is a chance characters could mention him).

According to reports, the movie will be about Eddie Brock and that version of Venom instead of Flash Thompson and his Agent Venom character. If that is true, the movie might go with the Protector of the Helpless that Venom always did when he was an antihero, rather than the government agent that was Flash Thompson's version of the character.
