Being in the world's largest boy band is not as glamorous as it is made out to be. Louis Tomlinson, a member of boy band One Direction, opens up in an interview with The Guardian about how he didn't necessarily have an identity in the band. He explains that fellow members, Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik all had something that made them stand out and that he was the "forgettable" member.

One Direction's popularity mainly comes from social media and their fans intense love for them, which Louis boasts about in this interview, "I think they’ll write books about One Direction fans because they are so fanatical.

The intensity. It’s remarkable." Each member has a distinctive personality, he tells the newspaper. Harry is the cool one, Niall is the happy-go-lucky one, Liam is the dancer and the hype man, and former member Zayn was known for his strong vocals. Louis feels as though there is nothing unique about him in the band and that it is no surprise that the other members are doing extremely well with their solo careers while the band is on hiatus. Tomlinson explains that the last year that One Direction was active he was more confident than ever.

Louis' solo career

Like his bandmates, Louis has also released his own solo music. On December 10, 2016, the singer released his debut single, "Just Hold On" with DJ Steve Aiko.

Tomlinson performed the song on "The X Factor UK" just days after his mother Johannah Deakin lost her battle with leukemia. The song has a slightly different sound than typical One Direction songs as it is EDM. Fans praised him for the song and for his strength in performing it. On June 24, Tomlinson announced his second single, "Back To You," featuring Bebe Rexha.

The release date is unclear, but he told fans that it will be coming soon.

One Direction's hiatus

One Direction announced while touring on their On the Road Again Tour in late 2015 that they would be taking a hiatus. While promoting their fifth studio album, "Made in The A.M." they ensured fans that they would be coming back soon.

It was initially speculated that they would return in 18 months, but that has been postponed. Fans thought they would return sometime this year, but member Harry Styles just announced his own tour that will begin on September 19 and will conclude on July 14, 2018.

Tomlinson states in this interview that he was against the band going on hiatus, "It wasn’t necessarily a nice conversation. I could see where it was going.” The band has yet to do a tour for their recent album and are due to go on a world tour to promote the album when they decide to come back.
