American singer Katy Perry became the first person to have 100 million followers on the social networking website Twitter.

The timing was perfect for the 32-year-old singer, who just released her new album "Witness" on June 9th, 2017. It sure is a big achievement to have 100 million followers when so many other popular celebrities and personalities from around the world are also active on the social networking site.

At the time of this writing, Perry has tweeted 8,542 times and it would not be wrong to say that she has used Twitter as her main form of communication with her fans.

The "Teenage Dream" singer's current bio on the social networking site is: "I know nothing," whereas, it used to be “Artist. Activist. Conscious." Katy Perry joined Twitter back in 2009 and managed to have 50 million followers by the year 2012. Last year, Perry was also the first person ever to gain 90 million followers and this time she has broken her own record.

According to the social media website, Katy Perry has 100,116,016 followers, while 23-year-old singer Justin Bieber occupies the second spot with 96,771,198, followed by the 44th President of the United States -- Barack Obama -- who has a fan following of 90,880,448 people.

Singers Taylor Swift and Rihanna are 4th and 5th, with 85 million and 74 million followers respectively.

According to the Twitter counter, the other people who have made it to the Top 100 accounts consist primarily of celebrities, singers, politicians, athletes, and news/media companies. Some of these accounts include Ellen DeGeneres, Cristiano Ronaldo, CNN Breaking News, Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates, ESPN, Donald J. Trump and Neymar Jr.

From June 9th -- when the pop singer released her recent album "Witness" -- until June 12th, 2017, the 32-year-old singer and songwriter had a live-stream via her own official YouTube channel.

On the final day there was also a concert. In total, the entire event was watched by roughly 49 million views from 190 different countries.
