George and Amal and Clooney are now proud parents of twins. Ella and Alexander Clooney were born on Tuesday morning, June 6, 2017, ahead of Beyoncé and Jay Z's twins that are due any day now.
A rep for the Clooneys said in a statement that mother and twins are all healthy, happy and doing find. The rep jokingly said George is sedated and should recover in a few days.
First-time parents
For many years, Clooney described himself as Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor. He met his wife in 2013, and they were married a year later in September 2014 in Venice, Italy.
Not only is George married, but he is now a first-time father at 56. His 39-year-old international and human rights lawyer wife is also a first-time parent.
The Oscar-winning actor has often joked about becoming a dad in his 50s. He has said that many of his friends already have adult children and he is just starting out. However, he is looking forward to the challenge of having babies late in life.
The couple wanted their twins to be born in the United Kingdom, and that's where the family of four will stay for now. They have agreed to live and raise the children in their London home for the first few years.
The fraternal twins' names
Perhaps the parents will reveal why they gave their twins such classic names.
According to the Baby Center, Ella is a shortened form of Eleanor and Ellen. The name means "light." Ella is the twelfth most popular name for girls this year. After 2017, it will probably shoot up to the top of the list of girls' names. Ben Stiller, John Travolta, and Alex Rodriguez's daughters are also named Ella.
The name Alexander is a Greek name that means "defender of men." The Baby Center reports that Alexander is the sixteenth most popular name for boys in 2017.

Since the birth of the twins, there have been many comments on social media. There are congratulatory messages and many comments about the normal names of the babies. One person posted on Twitter that the parents are classy and gave their kids classy names. Another asked if the Clooneys violated any celebrity rules by naming their daughter Ella and their son Alexander.

It is interesting that one day the Clooneys were a family of two and today they are a family of four. Comedian Ellen DeGeneres said she is calling the family Ocean’s Four. She was alluding to Clooney's 2001 film "Ocean's Eleven" that was so successful that there are two sequels, "Ocean's Twelve" released in 2004 and "Ocean's Thirteen" in 2007.
