In a recent announcement, which was not really a surprise for die-hard fans, AMC has now revealed that it will be renewing its highly popular "Breaking Bad" spin-off series, "Better call saul," for another season. While fans were already expecting the news, some are likely relieved at the announcement seeing as that the network did take their time in announcing the show's renewal.

Expected 'Better Call Saul' announcement

The renewal announcements for the previous seasons of "Better Call Saul" were made prior to the seasons actually ending. However, the fourth season renewal announcement was a bit delayed as season 3 actually ended with its final episode on June 19 without a peep from the network. There was no doubt in fan's minds that the show would be renewed, seeing as that the small time lawyer James Morgan "Jimmy" McGill, played by Bob Odenkirk, still hasn't fully transformed into the slimy and devious Saul Goodman from "Breaking Bad."

What to expect for Season 4

With the shocking death of Jimmy's brother Chuck, played by Michael McKean, at the end of the season 3 finale episode, fans are now waiting in anticipation to see how much of an effect it will have on Jimmy's psyche.

Chuck, who was struggling with mental illness and a huge blow to his ego, seemingly ended his miserable life by setting fire to his house. Before he decided to kill himself, Chuck left Jimmy with some choice words to wound him emotionally. It still has yet to be seen how all this would affect Jimmy and if it will finally be the turning point in his life that will transform him into the Saul Goodman everyone knows and loves.

Milking the cow

The series itself had initially been capitalizing on the popularity of the award-winning "Breaking Bad" television series. However, the show has now come to its own with several nominations and awards under its belt. It would of course only make sense for AMC to continue its momentum with additional seasons.

Similar to the previous season, "Better Call Saul"' season 4 will still have 10 episodes in total.

The new season is expected to move the series closer towards the "Breaking Bad" timeline with the introduction of even more characters from the original series. Season 3 had an average of 3.6 million viewers per episode, with 3.7 million tuning in for the season's finale. While the third season had slightly fewer viewers compared to the first and second season, the fourth season may turn that around. New episodes of "Better Call Saul" are scheduled to air on AMC sometime in 2018.
