Sylvester Stallone might not have a big role in this past weekend's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," but his appearance looks like it will end up being very big in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the movie, Stallone played a character named Stakar Ogord, a respected member of the Ravagers and someone who has a personal relationship with Yondu from the past.

In an interview with the Toronto Sun, "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn said that this likely won't be the last that fans see of Sylvester Stallone in the Marvel Universe.

The post-credit scene with Sylvester Stallone

Without giving away spoilers from "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," there were five post-credit scenes and most were just there for fun and to give some great Easter eggs to fans of Marvel Comics. An example is a scene with the hint that Adam Warlock is coming to the movie universe. Another was a scene with Marvel comics legend Stan Lee telling stories to the Watchers. Sylvester Stallone also had a post-credit sequence of his own.

In the Stallone scene in the end credits, Stakar was telling his fellow Ravagers that they should not hold onto old grudges and the events of this "Guardians of the Galaxy" movie tells him they should reunite for old times sake. If anything, it looked like Marvel was hinting at a possible spin-off movie in the future with the Ravagers.

Who were these Ravagers?

The biggest reason to think that this Sylvester Stallone post-credit scene could become its own movie is because the characters were played by some pretty major name actors. Martinex was the crystalline character and was played by Michael Rosenbaum, who fans know as Lex Luther from the TV show "Smallville." Ving Rhames ("Mission: Impossible") was Charlie-27 and Michelle Yeoh ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon") was Aleta Ogord.

Even the Mainframe in the scene was voiced by Miley Cyrus.

To add to the geek excitement for this scene, there is also the history with "Guardians of the Galaxy" in Marvel Comics. Long-time comic fans know that the version of the team in the movies is a newer version of the team. When originally created in 1975, the team consisted of Yondu, Martinex, Charlie-27, and Aleta Ogord.

The future of the Ravagers

With a huge name like Sylvester Stallone, there is little chance Marvel did not have their eyes on the future. James Gunn said that the characters might not appear in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," but he did say that they would be back. Gunn said he is working with Marvel on which "cosmic characters" they will work to bring to life next, and he said his goal is to find a place for "Sly" to have a future home in the Marvel movie universe.
