“Star Wars” might be one of the most complicated stories ever made. It has a book version, comics, and films – from standalone movies to trilogies. Thus, it may be difficult to adapt a narrative that would stick to its original story.
And, when you are Mark Hamill, a master of his craft who has played the film’s iconic character Luke Skywalker, you would definitely have a lot of ideas for both your role and your character. That being said, the 65-year-old actor admitted that he doesn’t like the current trajectory that his iconic character is on in the coming “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
Hamill's complaints about his character’s storyline
In the special cover story for Vanity Fair for the “Star Wars” 40th anniversary, Hamill revealed his sentiments about the new storyline the film’s director Rian Johnson made for his character.
At one point, he actually confronted the 43-year-old director and told him that he pretty much fundamentally disagreed with the choices he has made for his role.
“Now, having said that, I have gotten it off my chest,” the voice actor said. After that, he promised to do his job following the director’s orders and to do his best to fulfill his vision for the character. He even added that he is truly onboard with the theatrical cuts of both “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Hamill’s numerous ideas for Luke
Moreover, Hamill admitted that he is quite biased when it comes to his own ideas regarding how the character of Luke Skywalker should be portrayed in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
” “I have thousands of really terrible ideas,” he disclosed.
And these thoughts he has are the ones he wants to share with everyone, even though he is a little afraid that some might not agree with his ideas for the character. Hence, he thinks that some may actually listen but will actually entertain his ideas because he has already made similar suggestions in the past.
Luke’s warning about the Jedi
Meanwhile, a lot of “Star Wars” fans know that Hamill is quite uncertain when it comes to the storyline of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” The movie’s trailer revealed that Luke is having something of a meltdown and is secluded in a dark place, alone. After his long self-imposed exile, he is finally found by Rey (Daisy Ridley) but warns that the time for the Jedi to end has come. This little quip has been the subject of rumor and speculation since the teaser was released, but, ultimately, fans will just have to wait and see what happens once the film is officially released.
