In the year 2017, earthlings were bestowed with a marvelous surprise by Adult Swim on April Fool’s day. It was none other than the pilot episode for the much awaited third season of their massively successful Rick and Morty franchise. The fandom got a satisfactory episode of all the Rick and Morty shenanigans they have been aching for, which was more of a tease than anything else, leaving the fans thirsty for more.
The fandom has been and is being constantly updated via Adult Swim’s facebook page, and according to a new Video dated the 7th of May, the season premiere is only just the beginning of the "multiversal squanchery."
What’s the deal with this video?
The clip titled “How many shots are the right amount of shots for drunk Rick” begins with Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon addressing the fandom.
He says, ““Rick is a very high-functioning alcoholic. In episode 304, we need to see him get especially drunk, so I encouraged Justin to method act.”
Justin Roiland, who voices both Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith, is then seen taking multiple shots of alcohol to get into Rick’s character. According to sources, Justin went on to down multiple shots of tequila and bouts of other alcohol on Dan’s advice. Sydney Ryan, associate producer of the show goes on to say that “liquor adds a whole new aspect to Justin” and is seen advising Justin against tequila and trying to convince him that he’s had enough.
Justin, on the other hand, is seen having a ball in his drunkenness. He’s seen totally nailing the method acting while getting lost in the alcoholic trance with funny instances, a touch of existential crisis, a little bit of NSFW pish posh, and a whole lot of dramatic fun.
He even suggests he should have more shots. This is one dude who knows how to handle his alcohol.
So, how did it all go?
Although the fandom barely gets to see any juicy details about the upcoming episode from this clip, it gives them glimpses of a hilariously drunk Rick, and how he channels his true self for our entertainment and satisfaction.
“This was by far the least productive and messiest record day we’ve ever had, so, thanks a lot, Harmon.”, says Sydney. Way to spice up method acting, or not (?) The team behind Rick and Morty doesn’t seem to mind at all. In fact, they seem to be having a pretty chill time through the length of the video.
What unfathomable shenanigans await us in the upcoming episodes of season 3 of Rick and Morty?
Only time will tell. For now, we’ll just have to continue our painful wait for the awesomeness. Go on, Adult Swim, SHOW US WHAT YOU GOT!
