Hey, "Marvel's Agents Of SHIELD" peeps. Your favorite show has made the brutal ABC cut , so it will be back in the 2017-2018 season with a brand new season 5!

2.4 million viewers

The show only averaged around 2.4 million viewers a week with a 0.7 demographic rating last season, which was down about 30 to 40 percent from season 3. TV Line revealed that "Quantico" is pulling the same numbers and it's still on the bubble, waiting for a renewal announcement. On a more positive note, the DVR playback numbers got a 129 percent boost, ranking it in fourth place among all broadcast shows, just behind the CW's "iZombie" and "The Originals," and ABC’s "Designated Survivor."

Deadline also ran a report about this renewal, saying that this show is important to ABC, corporate-wise, as a platform for launching other parts of the Disney/Marvel franchise.

So, that's another reason why ABC decided to keep this one in their primetime line-up.

Reinvent the show

Also, as promised in the headline for this article, we do have a small season 5 teaser for you guys, via the TV Line crew. Apparently, they got to chat up the co-showrunner, Jed Whedon, and executive producer Jeffrey Bell, and they did tell us something. Jeffrey said that they always try to reinvent the show in some way, and they're certainly going to try to do it again.

If you're reading this article before tonight's finale episode, be sure to look for season 5 hints toward the end of the show, because Jeffrey mentioned that it will suggest something very different. After that, Jed chimed in to basically confirm what Jeffrey said.

Hopefully, after the finale tonight, they'll give the press a little bit more info as to what we can expect moving forward.

Mid to late July

As with all the other show renewals, there's no details about the number of episodes the new season will have, or an exact premiere date. Since this is an ABC show, I wouldn't expect to get that info until mid to late July. Hopefully we'll get a lot of new scoops at the big 2017 Comic-Con event in San Diego, CA in the latter part of July. Stay tuned.
