A brand new installment of MTV's popular reality television series, "The Challenge," begins on Tuesday night. The latest version of the show features a brand new twist as former champions return to the playing field but will not be competing against other former contestants. Instead, this latest version of the game brings in actual sports stars to contend with the MTV reality stars. Among them will be Olympic gold medalist Lolo Jones, and former WWE/current UFC fighter CM Punk. Here's the latest on MTV's "The Challenge: Champs vs. Pros" premiere for Tuesday evening.
New show's cast
The newest reality series features competitors from the history of "The Challenge" shows who won various editions. Viewers who are longtime fans of the MTV series will probably recognize most of the champions' names on the cast list. For the men, it will include CT, Wes, Johnny Bananas, Jordan, and Darrell. For the women, it includes Camila, Cara Maria, and two Ashleys, as well as Veronica who started way back on "Road Rules: Semester at Sea." Most of these players were formerly on "Real World," "Road Rules," or got their start on "Challenge" shows.
While they are the best of the best when it comes to "Challenge" shows, they've mostly faced other competitors and not a true test like they will this season.
There will be 10 professional athletes from various sports competing against them. Retired NFL linebackers Kamerion Wimbley and Shawne Merriman are two of those competitors. There's also several Olympic medalists including skier Gus Kenworthy, hurdler/bobsledder Lolo Jones, snowboarder Louie Vito, and Louise Hazel. Former WNBA star Candice Wiggins, current UFC fighter/former WWE star CM Punk, surfer Tia Blanco, and snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis round out the list.
The former "Challenge" champions will be in for their biggest test yet as this competition looks like it could be quite intense. Which of the former champs will be able to stand tall once it's all said and done? It should be interesting to see.
