The Walt Disney Company hires Michael Rooker ("Guardians of the Galaxy, The Walking Dead") for a supporting character in its upcoming film, “Mary Poppins Returns.”

Founded in October 1923, the Walt Disney Company has its headquarters in Burbank, California, and is one of the largest media conglomerates in the world. Michael Rooker is currently not listed as one of the cast members, but a Walt Disney spokesperson confirmed his role in the movie last night. He is also known for his roles in several video games, including "Call of Duty: Black Ops," "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2," and "The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct."

‘Mary Poppins Returns’

In addition to Michael Rooker, “Mary Poppins Returns” features Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Angela Lansbury, Colin Firth, Julie Walters, and Emily Mortimer.

This upcoming fantasy film is directed and co-produced by Rob Marshall and scripted by David Magee. It is the sequel to the 1964 blockbuster, “Mary Poppins.”

The movie will swing into theaters on December 25, 2018, and explores the lives of Jane and Michael Banks who visit their former nanny after a long time and get shocked to see that everything has been changed.

The production began in September 2015 when Walt Disney recruited Rob Marshall to write and direct the project, with John DeLuca and Marc Platt serving as executive producers. The story is inspired by a book of the same name.

Principal photography started in February 2017 in Surrey, United Kingdom. In a statement to The New York Times, Miranda said that the shooting is expected to wrap by the end of this year.

Who is Michael Rooker?

Born in April 1955, Michael Rooker is best known for his works in “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer,” “Sea of Love,” “Days of Thunder,” “JFK,” “Cliffhanger,” and “Mallrats.” He began his acting career in 1986 after finishing his studies at the Goodman School of Drama. Rooker played a serial killer in “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer,” a film based on the life of serial killer Henry Lee Lucas.

Michael was given more dramatic characters in movies such as “Mississippi Burning,” “JFK,” “Eight Men Out,” “Sea of Love,” “Cliffhanger,” “Tombstone,” “Days of Thunder,” “Mallrats,” “Super,” “The 6th Day,” “Super,” “Hypothermia,” “Slither,” “Rosewood,” and “Jumper.”

Earlier this month, he revealed via Twitter that he would play a major role in “Mary Poppins Returns.” He guest starred in several episodes of the AMC series “The Walking Dead.” The actor played Yondu in the Marvel Studios blockbuster “Guardians of the Galaxy,” which was directed and co-produced by James Gunn.

He is married to Margot Rooker and has two daughters with her.
