A “Luke Cage” villain, Diamondback, has returned to the Marvel Universe and knows how to achieve success in the world of crimes. Diamondback (Erik LaRay) is Luke Cage’s best friend, and will be a part of Netflix’s new series, “Defenders.” It is inspired by a novel of the same name by David Marquez.
In the new show, Brian Michael Bendis and Erik LaRay introduce themselves as the potential clients of Jessica Jones’ firm.
But their mission is to attack the city with a series of weapons. The complete story of the Defenders and Diamondback will continue in Defenders #1, on sale July 12, 2017.
‘Luke Cage’ – the televisions series
“Luke Cage” is one of the most popular series by Marvel. It is directed by Cheo Hodari Coker and premiered on Netflix in December 2014. The story is based on the MC (Marvel Comics) character of the same name, sharing the continuity with the famous film franchise.
The show features Mahershala Ali, Mike Colter, Simone Missick, Erik LaRay Harvey, Theo Rossi, Rosario Dawson, and Jessica Alfre-Woodard. Following the success of its first season, Netflix ordered new episodes in July 2016.
WGN, Amazon, and Netflix showed interest in video on demand services, and Marvel finally signed a deal with Netflix for $25 million.
Critical response and awards
Nathan Jackson, Kayla Cooper and Charles Murray serve as screenplay writers on the show, while Stephanie Maslansky is hired as costume designer. Visual effects are completed by the famous company, FuseFX. Previously, Disney Consumer Products launched a line of toys to cater adult audiences, giving the show an edge.
The review aggregator site, Rotten Tomatoes, has given it eight scores out of ten based on 56 reviews. Metacritic has assigned a score of 65 out of 100 based on 403 critics. The first season received a number of awards, including two Hollywood Music in Media Awards, three People’s Choice Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and five Golden Reel Awards.
