Michael Nance, 31, was found dead on Monday morning after police were dispatched following a call that reported an unresponsive person. Police identified the man as Michael Nance. Fans of the "Bachelorette" may remember Nance after he had a brief brush with fame as a contestant on the eighth season of the reality dating show. While police claim at this point they "are not" treating this as a suspicious death as of now, but the cause of Nance's death is not known.
Found unresponsive
A spokesperson from the Austin Police Department Homicide Unit said an autopsy would be done to determine how Nance died, according to the police department in Austin, Texas.
The call came in at 2:10 a.m. and police found Nance unresponsive, he was transported to the hospital where he was officially pronounced at 2:54 a.m. that same morning.
Wooed Emily Maynard
Nance was one of the contestants who wooed Emily Maynard during her season as the "Bachelorette." He didn't win her heart, but he left one very good impression on Maynard, who sent out a tweet after she heard the news of his death.
Maynard tweeted, "So sad waking up to the news about Michael Nance. Such a kind heart with so much talent," she wrote. "Sending prayers and love to his family and friends." Nance made it through four out of the ten weeks that makes up the "Bachelorette" season.
Housemates remember Nance
Many of the other contestants who spent four weeks living with Nance in the bachelor house remembered him for his talent, as he would play the guitar for all the men in the house. The word "kind" was used several times in the descriptions given of Nance from the memories of his former housemates on the "Bachelorette."
Hint in a tweet?
Is there a hint of Nance possibly having a problem in his friend's Arie Luyendyk Jr.'s tweet, which says, "I will always remember my friend Michael Nance for his kind and fragile soul.
Addiction is a terrible disease, may he finally find peace."
It sounds as if Luyendyk knows more about Nance's life than what has been reported today. This is just an assumption, and nothing should be assumed at this time. Once the medical examiner completes the autopsy, then the cause of Nance's death will be officially announced.
'Gentle giant'
Another cast member Kalon McMahon, called Nance a "gentle giant," according to E Online. Emily Maynard was one of the most famous contestants out of all the seasons of this show. She was on the show as a contestant herself. She came back as the "Bachelorette" to be wooed instead of doing the wooing.
There is no information about the circumstances around how or where Nance was found dead. It was not divulged if whether he was at home or not. There is also no information on what Nance has been doing since fans of the "Bachelorette" show saw him last.
