Following the news that "American Idol" has been picked up by ABC, the first ever winner of the massively successful reality TV show is heading to another widely popular competition"The Voice." Kelly Clarkson, who was the champion of the first "American Idol" back in 2002, has been tapped to coach "The Voice" season 14. According to CNN, the news arrives just a day after another Idol joins the table for Season 13 of "The Voice."

Yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter exclusively revealed that "American Idol" season 3 alum and Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson is slated to join "The Voice" season 13 as a coach.

She will complete the roster of coaches alongside Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and returning coach Miley Cyrus. NBC boss Paul Telegdy had nothing but praises for Hudson in a recent statement, saying that the award-winning singer and actress is "an extraordinary vocal talent and one of the premier voices of our time. She embodies the experience, expertise, positivity and sheer talent that 'The Voice' stands for. Her exceptional skills as a singer and actress have extended to film, television and Broadway, which makes her an incredible addition and a natural fit for our show."

"The Voice," which often has been more about the coaches rather than the singers they produce, has attracted more and more artists to join the roster of coaches.

Such prominent artists who have joined the show as coaches include Christina Aguilera, Usher, Gwen Stefani, Shakira, Pharrell Williams, and CeeLo Green. When the show returns for its 14th season, it will feature returning coach Miley Cyrus and "American Idol" alum Kelly Clarkson, who is currently in the studio working on her eight album.

Clarkson's multiplatinum career

As the first winner of "American Idol," Kelly Clarkson has sold millions of albums worldwide, including her 2004 record, "Breakaway," which earned her two Grammy Awards, one for Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Since U Been Gone," the second single from the record.

This was followed by the controversial "My December" in 2007, which did not did not do as well as its predecessor, but has been certified platinum in the United States. Clarkson went on to release "All I Ever Wanted" in 2009 and "Stronger" in 2011, before releasing a Christmas album titled "Wrapped in Red" in 2013 and "Piece by Piece" in 2015. In 2016, Clarkson announced that she signed on with Atlantic Records, with whom she's creating her upcoming record.
