Although its production has not yet started, it looks like “Star Wars: Episode 9” is going to face a big problem. The movie’s ninth episode has been placed quite oddly as the final chapter of the current trilogy, if not the end of entire “Skywalker Saga.”
The present-day trilogy is considered as the model of the movie’s all trilogies. Hence, even before “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” has been announced, the said sequel has a big pressure carrying on its shoulder.
The problem episode nine faces
“Star Wars: Episode 9,” would have a connection with episodes seven and eight.
It also has to be linked to other movie sequels before its own trilogy started. This seems possible as “Star Wars: Return of Jedi” and “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” have dealt with the differences in its own missions for its individual trilogies.
In fact, the latter managed to link the two trilogies without loopholes. The 1983 and 2005 movies even have their own benefits more than what the ninth episode needs, but it, too, are planned to be the final chapters at the time they are made. However, even if the ninth chapter tries hard to give its own trilogy an ending, fans of the epic space opera franchise perfectly know it is not yet the end of the story.
When the trilogy ends, viewers will be expecting that Lucasfilm will reveal another chapter a year after its release.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the movie franchise will definitely have a hard time to put its story to a close; especially that everyone knows that its tale is not yet ending.
The possible solution to its dilemma
Disney can surely do something to avoid “Star Wars: Episode 9” to give a “quasi-conclusion” when it will possibly still leave an opening for another sequel.
The movie distributor can simply announce that the science fiction franchise won’t make another trilogy anymore, but instead, it will create a continuing tale that will have a new installment every other year.
A return to traditional lineup
Meanwhile, it is recently confirmed that “Star Wars: Episode 9” will be released in May 2019, a timeline quite different to the trilogy’s December release.
As this helps the movie to be apart from the other summer blockbuster films releases, fans are still hoping that it will be back to its usual summer schedule. To recall, the other first six installments of the franchise have all been released in May.
So, it will be back to its traditional calendar as “Han Solo: A Star Wars Story” is slated to be out on May 25, 2018, that also marks the 41st anniversary of “Star Wars: A New Hope." After a year, it will be followed by the movie's ninth episode on May 24, 2019.
