Universal Studios’ latest reboot of “The Mummy” stars Sofia Boutella as a villain.
Previously, the actress portrayed a princess in the blockbusters “Kingsman: The Secret Service” and “Star Trek Beyond.”
For the first time, Sofia will be seen in a negative character.
‘The Mummy’ – a new thriller
Other cast members are Tom Cruise (Top Gun, Jack Reacher), Courtney Vance (The People Vs. O.J. Simpson), Russell Crowe (Gladiator, The Nice Guys), Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders, Annabelle), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World, New Girl), and Marwan Kenzari (Ben-Hur).
“The Mummy” has been directed by Alex Kurtzman. It is one of the most anticipated films of the year. The story and dialogues are penned by Alex Kurtzman (The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Star Trek Into Darkness), with Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange, Prometheus) serving as executive producer. It is the first installment in the Universal Monsters shared universe. The film will swing into theaters on June 9, 2017.
“The Mummy” is the story of a young princess, Ahmanet, who wants to be the new ruler of Egypt but her father does not give permission due to her careless nature. One day, the young lady kills her father and is punished for her crime. She gets buried alive beneath the sands of Egypt. Tom Cruise discovers her tomb and terror defy all humanity.
A few months ago, Cruise was spotted in Paris along with the whole cast of “The Mummy.” The team stayed there for seven days and shot several action sequences.
Most of the scenes of “The Mummy” have been shot in London, Namibia, and New York City. In December 2016, IMAX released a teaser trailer for the film with the wrong audio track attached.
Later on, it replaced the trailer with the new one and issued DMCA takedown notice to stop it from spreading.
