In an effort to get away from the stigma of suffering in silence, Lady Gaga had a candid chat with Prince William recently, talking about her problems and mental health in general. In the video posted to her Twitter account, Gaga explained to Prince William that she felt there was “something wrong with her” after recently revealing in an open letter on her blog that she has suffered Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Lady Gaga’s open letter read by Prince William

Reportedly Prince William had read the open letter recently and found it “incredibly moving” – he told Lady Gaga that she was very brave to publicly write about such personal feelings.

He said he wanted to ask her how she felt since speaking out about her PTSD which she has struggled with for five years. Speaking to the Duke of Cambridge from her Los Angeles apartment, Gaga told him that waking up each day, going on stage while feeling down was something that is very hard for her to describe. She said there is much shame attached to mental illness, adding that it makes you feel there is something wrong with you.

She said that looking around at all the wonderful and beautiful things she has, she should be happy.

However she said when you wake in the morning, feeling so tired and sad, you are full of anxiety and the shakes make it difficult to think. She said now she says that this is a part of her and it’s OK, she feels like she is not hiding it anymore.

As reported by Metro, Lady Gaga went on to say that it is a daily effort, while making her album, to regulate herself so that she doesn’t panic over things that many people would think are normal life situations.

But it’s also memories of past years on tour that come back to her when her need for balance was being ignored.

Time to speak up about mental health

In response, Prince William said it is time for everyone to speak up and feel normal about mental health. He compared mental health to physical health, saying everyone has it, and shouldn’t be ashamed of it.

He has since invited Gaga with meet him when she travels to London in October this year.

Prince William, his wife Kate and Prince Harry have been promoting their own mental health campaign, “Heads Together” in an effort to get the British people to speak out about their psychological problems or to offer them a sympathetic ear.

According to a report by the Bromsgrove Advertiser, William explained in a recent video speech that he had his own reasons for working towards mental health after what happened to his mother. This year will see the 20th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death. Prince William was 15 years of age at the time and Prince Harry was only 12 when she died in the Paris car crash on August 31, 1997.

Prince Harry recently revealed his feelings about Princess Diana’s death

The candid chat between Prince William and Lady Gaga comes just days after his brother, 32-year-old Prince Harry, opened up about his own problems, saying that he had almost had a mental breakdown after his mother, Princess Diana, died. Harry said the way he dealt with the problem was to stick his head in the sand, refusing ever to think of his mother because that wouldn’t help. The younger Prince said he thought thinking about her would only make him said, it wouldn’t bring her back. As reported by Reuters, Harry sought counseling help in his late twenties in an effort to handle the grief.
