The "Thor: Ragnarok" trailer is here and it looks awesome. Thor's back with a new haircut, fresh battle paint, a new villain, and a gladiator match against the Hulk. And let's not forget Led Zeppelin's Immigrant Song that fits in perfectly with the trailer. The film is slated for November release but it's nice to get a preview. Check out the video trailer below.
What's going on in 'Thor: Ragnarok?'
While most of the Avengers duked it out in "Captain America: Civil War" Thor and Hulk roamed elsewhere. Hela, the Asgardian goddess of death, sends Thor to the planet Sakaar without his hammer.
It seems like Thor would be able to take her out but Hela is powerful enough to catch Mjolnir thrown at full speed. We also get cameos from Heimdall and Loki. While the trailer doesn't explain their involvement, it looks like they're associated with Thor.
Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, Independence Day) plays the Grandmaster, a cosmic being, and ruler of the planet Sakaar.
Meanwhile, Tessa Thompson (Creed, Westworld) portrays Valkyrie, a rough Asgardian warrior who's hiding out on Sakaar. The Grandmaster, Hela, and Valkyrie all prepare Thor for an exciting gladiator match against the Hulk, who somehow got to Sakaar after "Avengers: Age of Ultron." To their surprise, Thor is ecstatic, calling Hulk a "friend from work."
Will 'Thor: Ragnarok' be the best Thor film to date?
While the Asgardian's films haven't seen Captain America or Iron Man levels of success, "Thor: Ragnarok" could give this series a boost it needs. The trailer appears to have a great balance of humor, action, and curiosity, setting up a great setting for the upcoming movie.
The different setting sets up a unique situation for Thor, putting him somewhere different than Asgard.
But the question remains, will "Thor: Ragnarok" be the best in the miniseries to date?
While the powerful hero's first two films didn't flop, it seemed like other MCU films overshadowed them. While Captain America and Iron Man almost always have other Avengers in their films, Thor's appear to lack that, besides small cameos. Since Hulk hasn't had a movie since 2008, sticking the green monster might be the detail that Thor movies were missing.
Passed Phase One, a lot of the Marvel Cinematic Universe crosses characters, for the most part. It'll also bridge the open gaps from the other films, revealing what Thor and Hulk were doing.
