After almost eight years, “Avatar 2” is now near in production after a long time of waiting. Sigourney Weaver, who played the role of Dr. Grace Augustine in the original film, revealed that they are now starting doing the movie sequel.
In the screening of her film “The Assignment” at Whitby Hotel in New York City on Monday, the 67-year-old star told the Hollywood Reporter that they are now starting doing the film. In fact, it is set to start filming in the fall.
Film’s production
“We’re starting!” Weaver said. “We’re starting training, and we’re starting — hmm, I probably can’t say anything.
We will be actually shooting it by the fall.” The movie franchise’s director James Cameron previously revealed that all of the four movies’ scripts are now completed. The films will also feature the return of the protagonists Jake Sully and Neytiri played by Sam Worthington and Zoe Zaldana.
Release Date
However, fans are quite disappointed for waiting so long as the sequel is still not yet ready for a 2018 release. To recall, the first “Avatar” movie was released in 2009 and became the sci-fi blockbuster film that grossed a total of $2.7 billion at the global box office.
Although it takes a lot of years in the making, Weaver assured the fans that it would be worth it. “I’m telling you, these scripts are so amazing, I’m not worried about [disappointing fans] at all,” she said.
She also revealed that “Avatar 2” is very ambitious that is definitely worth waiting for. So, to make it up with their followers, they are trying their best to “get it done as quickly as possible.”
An annual release
Additionally, Cameron admitted that he is not worried about the delays of the “Avatar 2” release. It has been known that his initial intent is to create four sequels, but it often encounters setbacks that affect his original plans.
“The important thing for me is not when the first one comes out but the cadence of the release pattern,” he explained. He added that he intentionally want it to be released a year after another and would do everything to live to his promise.
