For at least a few of "The 100’s" post-apocalyptic heroes, survival is imminent. Even as the end of days looms nigh, The CW drama is primed and ready for a fifth season. That’s right, folks. No matter how many corpse Apocalypse 2.0 leaves in its wake, you can expect a few familiar faces to grace your screen next winter. As of Friday, Jason Rothenberg’s sci-fi nail-biter received a green light for another year on the ground.
Rothenberg teases ‘The 100’ renewal
It would be the understatement of the century to say life’s been easy since the delinquents hit the ground.
From day 1, the body count was established and, over the last four years, it’s reached astronomical proportions. As another dose of deadly radiation sweeps across the Earth, viewers should expect the upcoming season finale to be as brutal – and prodigious – as its predecessors. Nevertheless, the heartiest survivors will manage to claw out of their graves once more…or so we hope.
"They're certainly going to have to figure out ways to survive. There are a lot of different options on the table. I don't think there's any one way," Rothenberg told EnStarz. "I think a lot of people won't survive it...It's not, by the way, designed to be a series finale."
Thank goodness for that. With the aid of Kass Morgan’s novels, the creative minds behind “The 100” have put their noses to the grindstone in a world-building effort that expands our horizons every week.
From inter-clan dynamics to conflicting ideologies to a species on the brink of extinction, there is nothing simple about Rothenberg’s universe. And yet, even with all these balls in the air, this bleak future brings the reliability of hope, friendship, and perseverance to our screens ever week. That’s a level of storytelling we’re not quite ready to give up.
What’s next on ‘The 100’?
The race is on to understand Nightblood and secure a stronghold. Even as the tenuous future of the human race hangs in the balance, Clarke (Eliza Taylor) and co. will hit stumbling blocks in every direction during March 15’s “We Will Rise.”
“Clarke and Roan (Zach McGowan) must work together in hostile territory in order to deliver an invaluable asset to Abby (Paige Turco) and her team,” The CW teased. Click the video below to see a preview.
