After years of bashing the affordable care act, the Republican Party officially announced their plan to replace Obamacare. In response, some of the biggest names in Hollywood decided to take to social media and voice their opposition.

Hollywood on GOP

The Affordable Care Act is the signature piece of legislation that was signed into law by former President Barack Obama in 2010. Due to the law being put into place, millions of Americans now have access health insurance, many of whom never had coverage in the past. When Donald Trump was elected president, with the Republicans in full control of Congress, it was only a matter of time before a potential repeal and replace of Obamacare was pushed.

On Monday, House Republicans revealed their plan to replace the Affordable Care Act, though many liberals and conservatives were quick to criticize. Republican Rep. Jason Chaffetz added to the controversy during a recent interview, when he said that low-income Americans should just stop buying iPhones and use the money to get health care. As seen across Twitter on March 7, Hollywood celebrities were not pleased.

"Republicans finally released their plan 2 destroy Obamacare & increase the already-bloated profits of health insurance companies," filmmaker Michael Moore wrote on his Twitter account, while using the hashtag, "#RESIST." "The GOP Healthcare bill contains a blatant tax giveaway for Health Insurance Company Execs," actor George Takei tweeted out.

Continuing, Takei wrote "It's obscene," and added, "They are FILLING that swamp, huh."

"Listen to this sh*t-lizard. This is the world the GOP wants for the working class," actor Patton Oswalt wrote on Twitter in response to Jason Chaffetz's aforementioned comments, while adding, "Beyond hateful." Actress Sarah Silverman also chimed in, tweeting her reaction to Chaffetz.

"This person thinks 2B struggling in this country is deciding bet. health care& an iPhone. My heart," Silverman tweeted, before noting, "Try medicine 4 ur baby or food 4ur baby."

Actress and long time enemy of Donald Trump, Rosie O'Donnell, made sure to express her thoughts on the GOP replacement for Obamacare.

"THE NEW OBABMA CARE IS THE OLD OBAMA CARE WITH ALL THE HEART REMOVED - AND GREED STUFFED IN ITS PLACE - NOT ON 2 - YES ON OBAMACARE," O'Donnell wrote, while using the hashtag, "#RUSSIA."

As Republicans struggle to make their case for a credible alternative to Obamacare, critics don't appear willing to back down anytime soon. Though the Senate is also controlled by the GOP, opposition from the likes of Rand Paul keep the bill from having a smooth path to Donald Trump's desk.
