There is no better time to be a fan of television than this very moment. The competition within the medium is palpable with more shows being released across networks than ever before. Apart from seasoned networks refreshing their line-ups, there are plenty of streaming services that are also looking to shake things up in television. Hulu and Netflix are producing shows like there is no tomorrow, and a fascinating new lineup has emerged for the spring season.

'The Handmaid's Tale'

Imagine a world where women are stripped of all their rights and used as tools to propagate the ideologies of a male-dominated society.

This deeply grim scenario will form the premise of the upcoming Hulu series “The Handmaid's Tale." The show will be led by “Mad Men" star Elisabeth Moss and is sure to touch upon the issues surrounding female empowerment quite clinically. The series is set to premiere on April 26th.

'American Gods'

Neil Gaiman has recently signed a massive network deal that will bring to life some of his best creations so far. The first one to hit our television screens will be Starz'’ “American Gods." The show has a setting that will pit old Gods against new Gods with the occasional human being thrown into the mix just to make things more interesting. “American Gods” will be released on April 30th.

'Dear White People'

Netflix’s “Dear White People” is an adaptation of an Indie film that looks to provide an untold perspective of the lives of African- American Ivy League students. The show has already gained a lot of attention online. You can binge watch “Dear White People” when it releases on April 28.

'Prison Break'

Shockingly enough, despite the death of its lead character Michael Scofield, “Prison Break” is back with a new season on Fox.

This will be a revival of the previous series but we are still unaware regarding the details of the tie-in with the previous version of the show. “Prison Break” was a break-out hit when it released a little over a decade ago and had a strong run across its four seasons. It will be interesting to see if the creators and original cast have something more to contribute to this already fascinating story.

The show will be out soon on April 4th.

'Twin peaks'

David Lynch’s haunting cult-classic television series “Twin Peaks” is finally here with the reboot and fans could not be happier. The most important characters from the original series will reprise their roles and will attempt to solve one of the most gripping murder mysteries to have played out on television. The series will return on May 21st.
