"Dancing with the Stars" Season 24 kicked off its 400th episode on Monday, March 20, 2017. This season had been advertised to be the best season yet because of the cast. Most of the celebrities have had some performing or dancing experience even though it hasn't been ballroom dancing. That means there will be some heavy competition.

Low scores

At the beginning of the competition, the judges brought out paddles viewers don't usually see. Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, Julianne Hough and Bruno Tonioli used their 7, 6, 5 and even 4 paddles more than once.

Hopefully, now that the competitors have gotten through their first dance, the judges can retire those paddles with low numbers on them.

The lowest score of the night went to actor Chris Kattan. He received only 17 out of 40. He got such a low score because of his goofy dance that didn't have much cha cha in it. He is partnered with Witney Carson who will more than likely advise him to save his comedy routine for "Saturday Night Live" instead of for the ballroom floor.

Highest score

Remember the saying, "Saving the best until the last." That was true about Simone Biles and Sasha Farber. The gold medal winner and her partner were the last to dance. According to head judge Len Goodman, their tango was the best dance of the night.

Carrie Ann called them the "power couple" of the season. Apparently, the other judges agreed because they all gave them a score of 8. Their total score, 32 out of 40, was the highest score of the night which was just one point above former New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings and Emma Slater.

Biles, the 2016 Olympic all-around gymnastics champion, did not disappoint viewers who predicted she would do well.

Because of her athleticism, focus, and experience of dancing to music as she performs her gymnastic routines, she was able to come out on top on the first night to move above everyone else. So far, she is following in the footsteps of her Final Five teammate, Laurie Hernandez, who won the Mirrorball Trophy last season with Val Chmerkovskiy.

Even though Simone did well and received the highest score of the night, she is not ready to receive the trophy just yet. There are others who will challenge her and keep her on her toes.
