"The Walking Dead" is the type of show that features violence and bloody scenes. Knowing this, there were still fans that were upset about the season 7 premiere. They felt that it was too brutal and that the show went overboard when it came to Glenn and Abraham's deaths. Recently, Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes on "TWD" spoke about why the brutality was necessary.

Rick and Negan on 'The Walking Dead'

During the season 7 premiere of "TWD," Rick Grimes finally met Negan. However, it was not a pleasant introduction. Not only did Negan kill Glenn and Abraham, but he played some wicked mind games with the Alexandrian leader.

The war against the Saviors

When the show returns in less than two weeks, Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon will be planning war against the Saviors. Even though Daryl wants to blow up the Sanctuary, he is reminded that there are innocent people there, forced to work for Negan. There is also the problem of needing more manpower and weapons.

Why a brutal beginning was needed

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Andrew Lincoln revealed why Glenn and Abraham's deaths had to be so brutal. "The Walking Dead" actor also explained why the whole first half of season 7 was dreary and depressing. This includes Daryl being kidnapped and tortured. It was for a specific reason. In order for the audience to understand the victories and root for Team Alexandria, they need to experience for themselves Negan's brutality. It's about justice and acknowledging the cost.

How will 'TWD' season 7 end?

Even though nobody knows how this season will end, the show may end up following the comic books. In Robert Kirkman's graphic novels, Rick tries to kill Negan, but fails.

However, the "TWD" villain is captured. The theatrics surrounding Negan's imprisonment is a storyline all on its own. So, that is something viewers might be able to look forward to.
