"Chicago Justice" will not be the NBC's first spin-off of the year. Last night, NBC premiered "The Blacklist: Redemption." Spin-offs and reboots are becoming commonplace. After the Superbowl, Fox airs "24: Legacy," a spin-off of "24". Over President's Day Weekend, CBS All Access launches "The Good Fight," a continuation of "The Good Wife." "Chicago Justice" premiere is up next.
The official premiere is not until March 5th, but on March 1st, NBC is doing a special crossover event that kicks off with "Chicago Fire' followed by "Chicago P.D." (CPD) and ends with "Chicago Justice" airing at 10 PM Eastern.
Spotlight on resolutions
The "Chicago Justice" premiere will feature Firehouse 51 from "Chicago Fire" as the firefighters respond to a warehouse fire that leaves 39 people dead. Stone's team works diligently to give families of the victim's resolution. This is not the only resolution the show will dish out. The promos for the show promises a resolution to who killed Justin Voight on "CPD." Since "Justice" is a spin-off of "CPD," it only fits that the resolution is used to kick off the latest installment of NBC's Chicago franchise.
On March 5th, "CPD's" Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) is indicted by a grand jury for murder. Stone's team has to investigate the chain of events that leads to a young man's death. "CPD" regulars Jason Beghe, Marina Squerciati and Amy Morton will be guest stars.
Why Watch 'Chicago Justice'?
Like any good spin-off, "Chicago Justice" uses "CPD" to create a solid foundation for the characters. Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda), a series regular from "CPD" moves to this latest installment of the franchise. The audience can follow his story as he goes from the police detective to lead investigator for Peter Stone (Philip Winchester), a state's attorney who leads a group of investigators and prosecutors to seek justice for victims. Peter Stone is first seen on "CPD" in episode 3.21 titled "Justice." The series also stars Carl Weathers, Joelle Carter, and Monica Barbaro.
