Nadya Suleman, better known as "octomom" wants out of both that stigma and being mom to 14 kids. The single welfare mom of 14 with IVF octuplets and former porn star told Peoplethat she never wanted such a large family. Suleman sought media attention to escape the negative attention she got as Octomom. She's giving more interviews to justify why she did pornography. Essentially she says it was either that or rely more on public assistance to feed her brood.

"Octomom" became an instant celebrity when she gave birth to octuplets and they all lived.
She got tons of offers of help. Television stations clamored for her story. But public compassion turned to scorn when the single mom was found to be living on welfare (food stamps, Medicaid, general assistance, etc.) with 6 more kids. She elected to have eight eggs implanted by invitro fertilizationwith "private funds" which turned out to be disability payments (or workers' compensation) from a back injury. Suleman says she never wanted so large a family--many children certainly, but not that many. Could she not do the math? Six children plus eight more is 14.

Nadya, or Natalie Suleman as she's renamed herself, hates the caricature of "Octomom." She blames the media for inventing her.
But Nadya admits the poor choices were hers alone. She also admits to exploiting Octomom to give people what they wanted. But now Suleman wants out of that persona to live as a private person. The single mom claims to have turned over a new leaf. She says it's hard to live down Octomom, but doth the lady protest too much? For one who wants privacy there's a lot of attention-seeking.

What are those bad choices? Octomom had IVF while on welfare. She underwent numerous forms of plastic surgerywhile getting government help--lip implants, boob job, tummy tuck and more. Suleman lied about receiving payments and was then found guilty of welfare fraud. She was investigated on child neglect.
Even with over $2,000 a month in EBT payments, she got herself over $1 million in debt. Suleman went to rehab for a prescription drug Xanax addiction. Natalie had to auction her home (which was funded in large part with help from others). She made porn films and worked as a stripper but has since quit to return to her job as a counselor.

As for the pornography career Natalie says it was either that or take more welfare. The drug addiction was to cope with her kids. Earlier she'd said the kids would starve or be homeless without her porn work. She also said she made dirty movies to avoid putting her kids "out there" (meaning presumably on a reality TV show or other television appearance).
But TV offers never came either. Suleman did some stupid things and regrets having such a big family but says her kids are turning out great. Since quitting porn, Nadya seems happier and is seen more often on social media with her family.
