Amazon.com may have slipped up yesterday, Jan. 30, when the online retailer temporarily listed the release date for the blockbuster film "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" as April 5, about 2 months from now. Movie sites cinemablend.com and movieweb.com were among the most notable sites to report on and confirm the information, which was met with much rejoicing the in the "Star Wars" community.
Fans are salivating at the chance to dissect the film frame by frame and better understand the plot and the characters in the Disney-owned franchise reboot, something that a Blu-ray release will allow them to do in the comfort of their homes.
A longer running time is announced
While the theatrical release for "The Force Awakens" was 136 minutes, the Blu-Ray listing on Amazon has the run time listed as 150 minutes. It doesn't take a mathematical genius to figure out that the Blu-Ray appears to be 14 minutes longer, so it makes a good case that, while J.J. Abrams may not be fully backpedaling on his adamant position he will not release a directors cut of the film, he may have decided to give fans some extra footage that was left on the cutting room floor for the theatrical release.
Only time will tell what will be revealed when fans scour every frame for the extra scenes.
Technical details revealed
Amazon has the Blu-ray listed for $19.99 and the set comes with a DVD copy and a digital HD copy, which has been standard for most releases these days and the added value gives fans many options to view their film. The rated PG-13 film was a departure from the typical PG rating of past installments of "Star Wars," and allows the filmmakers to up the intensity of the movie while still allowing for a wide audience to enjoy the film. The aspect ratio of the movie is listed as 2.40:1 and is currently listed as the best-selling product in the Movies and TV section of the online retailer.
The subtitles listed include French, Spanish and English while region is listed as A/1. This is the first Blu-ray release of a new "Star Wars" film since Walt Disney Studios purchased the franchise from George Lucas in 2012 for $4.05 billion dollars.
