It goes without saying that the year 2021 was the worst in the current century for many. Particularly, gamers have had it rough, albeit being able to play this year’s hottest video games as long as they wanted thanks to the lockdown. That’s because there have also been a lot of disappointing video games to endure.
Now that the year is coming to a close, it only fits to look back at those horrible titles and discern which ones were the worst of the lot. So without further ado, here are the 5 worst video games of 2020.
'Cyberpunk 2077' (PS4/Xbox One)
'Cyberpunk 2077' was originally meant for 2019 but was delayed until Dec 2020. As such, this dystopian RPG was seen by many as the swan song of 2020. Unfortunately, the game came infested with game-breaking bugs on launch. Although the PC and next-gen console versions were patched successfully, the last-gen console versions remain in complete disarray.
'Fast & Furious Crossroads'
Movie tie-in games aren't worth the investment, even if they’re based on some of the hottest blockbusters. Unfortunately, the brains at Slightly Mad Studios didn't realize this when they tried to adapt the Fast & Furious movie franchise. Everything about 'Crossroads' was underwhelming, from the short story mode to horrendous physics. Even the performances from the film actors reprising their roles couldn't save it from the scrap heap.
'WWE 2K Battlegrounds'
2K has become notorious for its mishandling of the 'WWE' trademark, and 'WWE 2K Battlegrounds' is no exception. Unlike 'WWE 2K 2020,' the worst entry in the franchise to date due to horrendous bugs, this title was instead brought down by some poor design choices that include a roster that shared each other's moves and an all too familiar live service system that forced players to pay for unlocks.
'Crucible' (PC exclusive)
Due to an oversaturated market, game developers are forced to reinvent the wheel these days. Such was the case with 'Crucible,' Amazon Game Studios' first foray into competitive shooters, released earlier this year. Unfortunately, the game’s concepts felt all too familiar on one hand and incomplete on the other. Sadly, as a result of a declining player base, 'Crucible' was gutted six months after release. What a way to break into game development.
'FIFA 21 Legacy Edition' (Switch)
EA Sports already caught a case over its recent handling of the FIFA franchise especially the latest entry ‘FIFA 21.’ But the studio’s crimes are at their most egregious with the Nintendo Switch port whereas it doesn’t feature any meaningful changes or updates from its previous versions. It’s essentially the same game three years in a row but is rolled out as if it was brand new.
