From the moment that we are born, we must realize that we are all destined for greatness. We have won the lottery, we have won a one in four trillion odds competition, and we must come to realize this. But as we grow up through modern society; from friends, acquaintances, or even family members, we are molded and pushed to become one of the averages individuals.

What does it mean to be "realistic?"

The average individual has an average job and an average life. They live far below their true potential, settling for a life that is simpler and easily attainable.

One of the ways in which people are swayed to live this type of lifestyle is because society pushes them to be "realistic." Realistic with their ambitions, realistic with their goals and their dreams. They feel that your capabilities only match what is normal in everyday society. Being realistic will just put a ceiling on your capabilities and force you to live a life far below your true potential.

There is a famous quote by Will Smith that goes "Being realistic is the most traveled road to the path to mediocrity." This could not be further from the truth. Why would you ever settle for a run-of-the-mill life when your capabilities are far above moderate or average. Life is far too short for us to be casual in our endeavors, for one of the greatest crimes we can commit is ridding ourselves of the lives in which we truly deserve and were born to live.

Why do people tell us this?

We hear it all of the time in today's society, the moment in which we tell someone about our goals or aspirations, we are told that we need to be "realistic." People think dreamers are crazy. Never listen to these people. These people telling you to be realistic is them trying to show you a practical idea of what you can achieve when they really have no idea what you are capable of.

They've partially given up and are trying to put their limits on you to justify it. This is your life, it is meant to be lived based on your potential and desires, not within the confines of others minds.

There is no room to be realistic when you possess such immense potential. Our dreams were not just given to us as something to think about when we are bored.

They are given to us as guidelines as to where we were meant to go and to what our purpose in this life truly is. Always remember that if you can think it, you can achieve it. Dream big, follow your passions, and do whatever makes you happy, for simply changing our mindset is one of the keys to achieving and giving ourselves everything we've ever wanted in life.
