Brett Favre, where are you? Many Green Bay Packers fans may be saying that in their minds right about now as the news is sinking in that the recent injury starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings could put him on the shelf for the remainder of the year. One of the early Super Bowl favorites back in August, the Packers are now a team without their on the field general for possibly the rest of 2017.
Now the world will get to know former UCLA star Brett Hundley. Hundley’s name will surely be googled a million times this week as NFL fans try to decide if they want to keep him in for the injured Rodgers.
However, just for one second, let’s leap into a big fantasy move - even though this will probably never happen! Packers fans, if you could replace Aaron Rodgers, who would it be with? Let’s jump right into the big names of today.
Colin Kaepernick
Seriously, this could have been the perfect scenario for Kap. Not talking any`of the off-field stuff here, just pure football. Kaepernick is from Wisconsin and he grew up cheering for the Packers as a youngster. It seems like decades ago, yet it was January 12th of 2013 when the Jim Harbaugh led Forty Niners smashed the Packers 45-31 and Kaepernick was the reason why. He rushed for 181 yards while passing for nearly 300 in the Niners win on their way to the Super Bowl.
So would Green Bay think of calling the highly publicized QB to take over for Rodgers this season? The odds may have been better if Kaepernick hadn’t just filed a grievance under the latest collective bargaining agreement against NFL owners for collusion. ESPN is reporting that Kaepernick has hired attorney Mark Geragos to represent him in the case.
Geragos has also defended celebrities Michael Jackson, former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield and musician Chris Brown in his career.
Tony Romo
Romo still has the game in his blood. He still works out, his knowledge of the game is incredible, and let’s face it, he has something left in the tank. Just listen to him call a game on Sundays.
The downside? Just like Kaepernick, he hasn’t seen live action in a long time. The football fan in me would love to see Romo in a Packers uniform facing the Cowboys in a playoff game at Lambeau Field in January. Now that would be something to see!
Brett Favre
Come on, it would be great and you know it! Seeing old No. 4 suit up to really end his career the right way - in a Packers uniform and not the Vikings? That's what the Packers need!
Brett Hundley
Let's not forget about the kid who is already there. Hundley put up monster numbers at UCLA and did very well for the Packers in the preseason. Hundley finished his college career as the all-time leader in UCLA passing history with 75 touchdowns and 11,677 total yards.
That is nothing to sneeze at! The only problem? Hundley isn't ready to win now, and of course, it is not his fault. He is young and has a great teacher in Rodgers, but the Packers were thinking Super Bowl or bust heading into the 2017 season.
Will the Packers ride it out with Hundley, or will they make a bold move and try to land a veteran quarterback ASAP?
