E.L. James’ third novel “Fifty Shades Freed” is a sequel to the much-talked about “Fifty Shades of Grey” and “Fifty Shades Darker.” Many followers of the franchise believe that the third movie is sexier than the first two films. But the critics say that it is seen as conveying a message that an Abusive Relationship can become normal and enjoyable.
'Fifty Shades of Grey' does not depict abusive relationship as normal
“Fifty Shades of Grey,” which was directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, is the ultimate presentation of an abnormal and sadistic behavior in a relationship.
The movie showed Christian Grey (played by Jamie Dornan) tying and spanking Anastasia Steel (played by Dakota Johnson) while being intimate. In the original film, Steele fled from Grey because she can no longer bear his abuses. The second movie showed reconciliation because after all, they still love each other.
“Fifty Shades Darker” and the third film were directed by James Foley. His films became lighter and lack the intensity of the first film. The director said that the sequels seem to convey a message that abusive relationships are normal as reported by NY Post.
'Fifty Shades Freed' speaks of love
“Fifty Shades Freed” did not justify or normalize the abusive relationship. In fact, in the second film Anastasia Steele has already laid down some rules.
In the third film, the pair got married and started a family. Just because they tied the knot, there are assumptions that Steele is able to stand the abuses and learned to live with it.
In the film, Grey gave in to the demands of Steele in order for her to go on with the relationship. Grey changed for the better. This is the reason why Steele married him despite his past.
The selling point of the movie is not its abnormality but the female star’s deep love for her lover that she effected changes in his life. She also accepted him for who he is. The male counterpart also changed for the better because of his intense love for her.
Despite the divided opinions on “Fifty Shades Darker,” it was a huge hit at the box office.
The worldwide earnings reached $3.7 million. The first film earned $4.1 million The third film is expected to surpass its predecessors. According to Irish Examiner, it is the part where their love was consummated as seen in the trailer.
“Fifty Shades Freed” will be released on February 2018. Filming of the movie has already been finished because it was filmed simultaneously with the second film. For those who want to see it for its sexy scenes; they are still integrated in the film. Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson reportedly have a scene where they are totally nude.
