President Trump has managed to anger two of the United States' closest and most powerful allies during a speech at the NRA convention. President Donald J. Trump took aim on the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris and the increase knife violence in London. According to CNN, during President Trump’s speech, he highlighted that during the 2015 Paris attacks, Parisians were unable to protect themselves which lead to over more than 100 deaths. Provoking anger by both France and Britain, which are the United States strongest European allies.
At the NRA convention held on Friday (May 4) in Dallas, Texas, President Trump outraged both countries.
The president spoke on topics that ranged from international affairs to domesticated ones. Addressing the NRA in a 50-minute speech, the Washington Post reported that President Trump stated, “I recently read a story that in London, which has unbelievably tough gun laws, a once very prestigious hospital, right in the middle, is like a war zone for horrible stabbing wounds.”
The president said “knives” three times repeatedly all while making a stabbing motion with his hand. When addressing the 2015 Paris attacks, CNN reported that President Trump used his hand to mimic a gun in a reenactment describing how victims were shot. “They took their time and gunned them down one by one, boom, come over here, boom, come over here, boom.”
These comments made by President Trump has sparked immediate outrage among the government and citizens alike of both countries.
Trump blames strict gun laws in France, saying armed Parisians could have prevented the attack

President Trump comment on Britain’s increase in knife attacks
President Trump described a London hospital as a “war zone” due to knife violence while speaking to 8,000 NRA members.
The president’s remarks were to describe how strict gun laws does not stop the violence. According to TIME, in research conducted by the FBI in 2017, London has a lower murder rate than any American city. The hospital that the president was describing was the Royal London Hospital. London Mayor Sadiq Khan has declined a comment in response.
