It was announced that Kim Jong-un of North Korea would be willing to speak to the United States about giving up the country's nuclear weapons. Not long after the report was made public, Donald Trump decided to sound off.
Trump on North Korea
It's no secret that Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un don't see eye to eye. The United States and North Korea have long had a rocky relationship, which has only gotten worse since the election of the former host of "The Apprentice." Trump's insults towards Kim Jong-un appeared to only make matters worse, with the president referring to the North Korean leader as "Rocket Man" in a series of tweets, while also using the insulting nickname during a speech at the United Nations.
Kim and Trump have engaged in a public feud since that time, leading to a CNN report that North Korea would agree to take part in discussions with the United States about giving up their nuclear weapons.
After the report was confirmed by South Korea, Donald Trump responded to the news during a March 6 tweet. "Possible progress being made in talks with North Korea. For the first time in many years, a serious effort is being made by all parties concerned," Trump tweeted. "The World is watching and waiting!" he added, before warning, "May be false hope, but the U.S. is ready to go hard in either direction!" Not long after Trump posted his thoughts about North Korea's decision on social media, critics reacted as expected.
Twitter reaction
Donald Trump's latest reaction to North Korea quickly sparked a negative response from his critics. "You don't even know the difference between North and South Korea. Please stay out of this!" one tweet read.
"You had NOTHING to do with it Trump, don’t even try to take credit!" Bishop Talbert Swan tweeted, while adding, "Go hard in the anti white suprem*cist direction! How about you start there Trump?" "Which has nothing to do with you or anyone in your admin. Thanks President Moon Jae -In," another tweet added. "And it's happening in SPITE OF YOU, DONNY. South Korea KNOWS YOU are NOT HELPING at ALL," an angry critics replied.
"I never again want to see a tweet from you containing the phrase 'go hard.' Ever," yet another tweet stated.
"So you admit that you haven’t tried anything seriously in over one year," a social media user wrote. The backlash against Trump continued following his tweet, as the opposition to the White House appears to be gaining steam.
