Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney has announced that he will be running for a Senate seat in Utah. In response, Donald Trump decided to give his thoughts.

Trump on Romney

In an announcement that caught no one by surprise, Mitt Romney made his run for Senate in Utah official earlier this week. With current Utah Sen.

Orrin Hatch retiring at the end of the year, Romney is expected to easily win the seat due to his popularity in the state, much in part due to his faith as a devout Mormon. Romney previously served as the governor of Massachusetts, before winning the GOP nomination for president in 2012 where he was defeated by Barack Obama.

Since then, Romney has spoken out against Republican President Donald Trump, not holding back his thoughts while causing a rift between the two. Trump even went as far as to accuse Romney of "choking" in the 2012 election, mocking his candidacy on more than one occasion.

Despite the obvious tension, the commander in chief decided address the news during a tweet on February 19 where he gave his full endorsement to Romeny's campaign. "Mitt Romney has announced he is running for the Senate from the wonderful State of Utah," Trump tweeted. "He will make a great Senator and worthy successor to Orrin Hatch, and has my full support and endorsement!" he added.

Within minutes, those who oppose Trump were quick to remind the president of his history and bad blood with Romney.

Instant backlash

After Donald Trump gave his endorsement of Mitt Romney, it didn't take long before his critics fired back. "Until he says or does something you disagree with and you’ll throw him under the bus just like everyone else.

You’re a man child Trump," one tweet read.

"Guess what, he doesn’t want nor need your endorsement. Nice try. Sycophantic Trump," yet another Twitter user wrote. "You clearly don't read his tweets," Travon Free tweeted, which was answered with "He can't read, and Jared has been busy trying to get security clearance!" "Don't...just Don't.

I don't think he wants your endorsement as it's proven to be the kiss of death," yet another tweet added.

"Lol Mitt Romney hates you. Much like the rest of America. resign already!!!!" an additional tweet went on to read. "Well, he’s dead in the water now. EVERYTHING YOU TOUCH, DIES!" a social media user wrote. The backlash continued to pour in as the president was given a reality check that Mitt Romney is not his biggest fan.
