Over the last week, Donald Trump's proposal to arm teachers in an attempt to prevent School Shootings has been one of the hottest debates across the country. After the president claimed that he would have gone into the school himself to save the students, Sarah Huckabee Sanders gave her response.

Sanders on Trump

The mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida earlier this month quickly resulted in gun control being the top issue in Washington.

After 17 innocent people were killed by the gunman, both the political left and right became vocal with their thoughts and potential solutions. As expected, conservatives made sure to defend their right to own a gun, instead deflecting blame onto local law enforcement in the area, as well as accusing Democrats of trying to erase the Second Amendment.

Part of Donald Trump's plan is to allow teachers to carry guns into schools as a way to prevent future school shootings from taking place, which White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders made sure to defend.

"We're not advocating for the arming of every single teacher in the school. There are teachers & other school personnel who have experience, pre-existing training, & the desire to be part of something like this," Sanders said.

When asked to address Donald Trump's recent claim that he would have run into the Parkland school to prevent the shooting even if he wasn't armed, Sarah Huckabee Sanders did her best to clarify.

"I think he was just stating that as a leader he would have stepped in and hopefully been able to help," she said.

Twitter reaction

After defending Donald Trump's stance on gun control, Sarah Huckabee Sanders faced immediate criticism. "It seems that all I ever hear from (SHS) is “I cant really talk about it, I don’t really know anything, and I’ll get back to you on it” like b**ch...

F**k you and your pimp Trump," one tweet read.

"Apparently Trump had a luncheon with the NRA yesterday. It wasn't on his schedule or announced (because it's in poor taste) until he let it slip this afternoon," a follow-up tweet noted.

"My takeaway from today’s WH presser: Whoever is in charge of Sarah Huckabee Sanders’s eyebrows should be fired," a Twitter user wrote.

"(SHS) dressed in her most primitive pilgrim attire is NOT convincing thinking people this POTUS didn't mean to hide his NRA luncheon," a social media user noted.

"(SHS) is wearing highlighter today...which seems pointless because why apply a blinding highlight to a disheveled lump of dogsh*t? it’s already beyond saving. waste of product, NOT eco-friendly!" yet another tweet stated.
