News broke on Monday afternoon that Vanessa Trump, the wife of Donald Trump Jr., opened up a letter that contained white powder.

Upon opening the package, Vanessa Trump complained of stomach pains and along with two others were taken to local New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center for what has been described as a "precaution." The letter was postmarked from the Boston area, with the powder later revealed not to be an anthrax-like substance, but rather corn starch, according to a report from NBC News.

After Vanessa Trump was released, Donald Jr.

decided to take to Twitter on February 12 to give an update on his wife, while lashing out at those who have taken their criticism of the administration to the next level. "Thankful that Vanessa & my children are safe and unharmed after the incredibly scary situation that occurred this morning," Donald Trump Jr. wrote. "Truly disgusting that certain individuals choose to express their opposing views with such disturbing behavior," he added.

In a follow-up tweet, the younger Trump gave thoughts to those who assisted his wife and family following the scare.

"A special thanks today to the great men & women of the NYPD, FDNY, Secret Service, New York FBI and the Joint Terrorism Task Force for their decisive action and incredible words of support to my wife and family," Donald Jr. wrote, while concluding, "Their professionalism under pressure made a rough day manageable."

Instant reaction

After Donald Jr. sent out his pair of tweets, some critics still weren't sympathetic. "Disgusting people attract disgusting behavior," the offical Socialist Party Twitter account wrote.

"Maybe you should reflect on the tone and tenor of your texts and public statements so as to not encourage those crazy people.

You can make valid points without being a complete and total D-ick," one tweet read. "Where's your proof that it was the opposition? Think before you act Donnie," an additional tweet noted.

"You should be taking care of your family instead of tweeting about it for attention," a follow-up tweet stated.

"Please start a go fund me, so we can all chip in with medical fees. I understand all your assets will be taken by the state under proceeds of crime law, although on the positive side, prison does come with free healthcare, and making licence plates pays $6 a day of honest money," a social media user wrote.
