Bristol Palin, daughter of Alaskan Governor and former vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin has split from her husband, Dakota Meyer. TMZ reported that the 27-year-old Palin and Meyer have been living apart from each other and that on January 29, Meyer, using only the couple’s initials, filed for divorce from Palin in Texas.
Meyer files for divorce from his wife
Palin married Meyer, a former Marine in a secret wedding in June 2016, one month after Bristol changed their daughter, 2-year-old Sailor Grace’s last name from Palin to Meyer. The couple also has another daughter together, 9-month old Atlee Bay.
Palin also has a 9-year-old son, Tripp, with ex Levi Johnston.
Bristol reacted to her engagement, in a long-since-deleted Instagram post calling herself the “luckiest girl in the world.” Her mother, Sarah Palin made a statement saying, “We’re honored to welcome Dakota into our family.”
According to ET Online, which reportedly obtained a copy of the court documents, Meyer reportedly cited “discord or conflict of personalities” as the reason for the end of the marriage, adding that the discord “destroys the legitimate ends of the marriage relationship and prevents any reasonable expectation of reconciliation.”
History of relationship problems
The couple met while filming Sarah Palin's show, "Amazing America" in 2014.
They were first engaged in March 2015 but broke up just two months later in May 2015, five days before they were supposed to get married. Following rumors that Meyer had attempted to hide his previous marriage to Cassandra Wain from Bristol, Sarah Palin announced the news of her daughter’s broken engagement on Facebook. She did not clarify if only the wedding was off or whether or not the couple had also broken up.
Briston Palin, in a long blog post about the split, said that she was rebuilding her life in Alaska “under much different circumstances than anticipated,” with her son Tripp. She said she believed that God’s plan was “greater than ever.”
In a June blog, Palin revealed that she was pregnant, saying, “I know this has been, and will be, a huge disappointment to my family, to my close friends, and to many of you.” Despite Palin’s insistence that the pregnancy was planned, Meyer wasn’t immediately named as the baby’s father.
They appeared to be spending more and more time together after Palin agreed to change Sailor’s surname to Meyer and Palin confirmed the reunion in an Instagram selfie.
The couple later shared a snap of Palin wearing a wedding ring, from their tropical honeymoon, with Entertainment Tonight, confirming their unexpected marriage. The couple has shown no signs of the split on social media, but TMZ has reported that they have unfollowed each other on Instagram. The last photo of the pair was posted to Instagram on January 7. Palin, however, has not posted a photo of them together since Christmas.
