It's been one year since Donald Trump shocked the world by defeating Hillary Clinton to become the 45th President of the United States. As the first family prepares to celebrate their first holiday season in the White House, critics of the administration made sure to give their thoughts on social media.
Melania on Twitter
When Donald Trump first announced his plan to run for president, he did so on the floor of Trump Tower in New York City two and half years ago. In the months that followed, the former host of "The Apprentice" was able to ride his momentum all the way to the Republican National Convention and be named the GOP nominee.
At the event, First Lady Melania Trump came under fire after being accused of plagiarizing her speech from one given by Michelle Obama years earlier. Since that embarrassment, Melania has remained mostly out of the spotlight, spending the first six months of the Trump administration back in New York City with her son Baron. While Melania has kept a relatively low profile, it hasn't stopped critics from speaking out, with the most popular criticism relating to her stance on ending cyberbullying despite her husband's actions on social media. Fast forward to present day and the first lady has been taking time to help get the White House ready for the holidays, which included receiving the annual Christmas tree on Tuesday.
As seen on her Twitter feed on November 22, Melania decided to post a message and attach a few pictures for good measure.

Taking to her Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon, Melania Trump shared a few photos from the White House as it prepares to be decorated for the holiday season.
"Preparations are underway to celebrate the holidays at the @WhiteHouse!" Melania tweeted out.
Thank you Silent Night Evergreens in Wisconsin for our beautiful tree! @POTUS, Barron & I are excited for Christmas in our new home! pic.twitter.com/so6HVG1st8

In a previous post from earlier in the week, the first lady tweeted out an edited video of herself and Barron Trump with the White House Christmas tree.
"Thank you Silent Night Evergreens in Wisconsin for our beautiful tree! @POTUS, Barron & I are excited for Christmas in our new home!" she wrote.
Twitter responds
Not too long after Melania Trump posted about holidays at the White House, those who oppose the president wasted no time firing back. "Enjoy another multi-million dollar tax payer paid golf resort vacation," one tweet read.

When putting decorations on Christmas tree I often feel the need to casually drape a cashmere coat over my shoulders, said no one ever. pic.twitter.com/EVJA02WGna

"You don't sleep with him do you hope not gross," one Twitter user wrote about the first couple.
"When putting decorations on Christmas tree I often feel the need to casually drape a cashmere coat over my shoulders, said no one ever," Gabby Logan sarcastically tweeted.
Someone ought to turn the heat up in there. Mrs Dotard is always wearing a cape, shawl or coat INSIDE. Oh wait according to her it is HER new house, she can just go over to the thermostat and tweak it up a few degrees.

"WH not paying its electric bill that you have to drape a coat over your shoulders?
Another photo op by Fake President and Fake Wife," an additional tweet added. "Someone ought to turn the heat up in there. Mrs Dotard is always wearing a cape, shawl or coat INSIDE. Oh wait according to her it is HER new house, she can just go over to the thermostat and tweak it up a few degrees," yet another post read. The backlash continued as the political divide in the United States showed no signs of slowing down, even during the holiday season.
