As Donald Trump continues with his 12-day trip through Asia, the president announced in his latest tweet that First Lady Melania Trump will be staying behind in China as he heads to Vietnam. In response, those who oppose the president had a little fun at the expense of the first couple going their own way on the trip.
Trump trip split
The presidency of Donald Trump has been one that has widened the divide among the American people. It all started back in June of 2015 when the former host of "The Apprentice" created a media frenzy by announcing his plan to run for president on the floor of Trump Tower in New York City.
Despite this, Trump was able to ride his momentum to the Republican nomination last summer. Just a few months later and Trump was elected the 45th President of the United States following an upset win over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Since then, the administration has faced backlash, including First Lady Melania Trump. While Melania has mostly remained out of the spotlight, she's come under fire for her plan to fight cyberbullying, with critics pointing out the hypocrisy due to her husband's propensity to tweet insults on social media. In addition, many have pointed out the questionable body language between the president and the first lady when both are seen together in public. As Trump left China to head of to Japan, he confirmed on Twitter that Melania would be staying behind in China with a tweet on November 9.
I am leaving China for #APEC2017 in Vietnam. @FLOTUS Melania is staying behind to see the zoo, and of course, the Great WALL of China before going to Alaska to greet our AMAZING troops.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday night, Donald Trump gave an update about his foreign trip and announced that Melania Trump would be staying in China.
"I am leaving China for #APEC2017 in Vietnam. @FLOTUS Melania is staying behind to see the zoo, and of course, the Great WALL of China before going to Alaska to greet our AMAZING troops," Trump tweeted out. While the next stop on the trip is Vietnam, the president's critics wasted no time focusing on the first lady sticking around in China.
Twitter trolls
After Donald Trump sent out his tweet about heading off to Vietnam without Melania Trump, the president's opposition fired back. "She’s sick of you. It’s OK, we are, too,' one tweet read.

"You belong in a zoo," another tweet added, with a reply writing, "Also who lets their boo go to the zoo alone? Worst guy ever." "Can’t blame her for staying behind...." yet another tweet read.

That was my first thought exactly too. Either she's going to meet up with HER sidepiece from New York, or she's just so irritated at all his BS she just can't even look at him anymore.

Is this the Vietnam that you dodged or the Vietnam we know you caught.

"Are you sure it's because of the zoo, Donald? Are you sure that's the reason she's staying behind?" one Twitter user wondered. "She sees the zoo every day being married to you, Donny," a social media user noted. "Is this the Vietnam that you dodged or the Vietnam we know you caught," additional post stated. The backlash continued as the opposition to Donald Trump and the White House showed no signs of slowing down.
