The FBI raided Trump's former campaign chairman's house in the Early Hours of the morning on July 26 2017. This is as part of an investigation to determine whether Manafort helped aid Russian meddling in the 2016 Presidential elections. Although Manafort has been providing the congressional committees investigating the matter with some documents, it was believed that he was still withholding other documents. The raid revealed several documents which Manafort hadn't shared.
The President's former campaign chairperson
Paul Manafort worked as an international lobbyist and political consultant in the 1980's.
On 29 March 2016, Trump announced that Manafort had joined his campaign team, as they prepared for the Republican National Convention in July 2016, according to Fox News. Trump and Manafort have known each other for years and Manafort was seen as an excellent addition to Trump's campaign team.
However, in the later stages of Trump's campaign, Trump began distancing himself from Manafort. This came as several rumors about Manafort's suspect international dealings began to arise. In August 2016, Manafort resigned from Trump's team as people began questioning his Ukrainian business dealings. A special counsel was selected to investigate Paul's activities, even before Trump was elected as president, according to the Boston Globe.
After Trump was elected to be President of the United States, it became even more important to find out about Manafort's activities and whether he allowed Russian meddling in the elections. Manafort, however, has denied all the accusations regarding his allowing Russian meddling.
Raiding Manafort's house
Special counsel leader, Robert Mueller, recently decided that he wants answers and he wants them now, according to Fox News.
As such, he and his team appealed to a federal judge, asking for a search warrant for Paul's house. The counsel believed that he was withholding important documents from them. And so, on the morning after Manafort voluntarily met with the Senate Intelligence Committee, the FBI raided one of his residences.
They conducted a full search of the house in Alexandria and discovered documents and material linked to the Russian meddling that Manafort had not yet shared. No information on what was found has been released as of yet. Hopefully, this raid will reveal the truth about the 2016 elections and will allow justice to be served.
