The Trump administration's hostility towards the press is thorough and present in practically every one of his aides. Recent reports about the hostile encounter with one of the President's top aides, Omarosa Manigault, also shows this to be the case. In fact, the hostility is reserved for anyone opposed to Donald Trump. But one should recall the clash between Omarosa and a former friend of hers, White House press corps reporter April Ryan.
April Ryan goes after Manigault
Ryan was on a CNN podcast hosted by Angela Rye where their feud was recalled.
Back in February, the Washington Post reported that Ryan and Manigault had a confrontation just outside of the Oval and Sean Spicer's office, the former Press Secretary. Ryan said that Manigault was physically intimidating enough to her to warrant possible intervention by the Secret Service. Manigault apparently got into Ryan's face as if she was going to hit her and she told her to back up. At the time, she also threatened Ryan by saying that they had a dossier on her.
The article by the Washington Post titled: "Journalist says Omarosa Manigault bullied her and mentioned a 'dossier' on her" said that the confrontation stemmed from emails Omarosa sent to Ryan during the 2016 presidential campaign.
The email's accused Ryan of being paid by the Clinton campaign to write pieces that were more favorable to her. Ryan apparently felt that Manigault was trying to ruin her livelihood saying that she had been covering the White House for 20 years and would continue for 20 more.
Manigault fires back
In the podcast episode, April Ryan said that Manigault didn't actually work in the White House but rather in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building across the street which she shares with other people.
Manigault has said of the interview that April Ryan is trying to use her as click-bait and that it needs to stop. But the Washington Post article titled: "White House reporter April Ryan and Trump aide Omarosa Manigault used to be friends. Now their feud is at epic levels", Ryan said at the time that their friendship was genuine.
The reporter said that the Trump campaign was not happy with hers and Omarosa's relationship and had been trying to get Manigault to cut ties with her. It's been reported that Manigault even asked April Ryan to be one of her bridesmaids for her wedding but Ryan refused. It's also been reported that Sean Spicer singled out April Ryan when he was told by Manigault to not call on her during press briefings. Spicer has been known to get into confrontations with members of the press just like other members of Trump's administration. Here is one report about the confrontation from earlier this year.
