The New York Police Department (NYPD) has launched a massive search early Sunday morning for two assailants – one of which dragged a police officer in the Staten Island area, while in the second incident, an officer was dragged and critically injured in Brooklyn.
Police officer asks driver for ID then gets dragged down the street
According to police sources, the first incident happened at around 4 a.m. on Saturday, where a police officer in Staten Island had been flagged down by a motorist on Victory Boulevard. When the NYPD officer asked the driver for identification, the man, driving a red sedan car with three passengers, then dragged the police officer for a “short distance.” As reported by the New York Daily News, the vehicle was last seen driving west on Victory Boulevard.
The officer was taken to the Richmond University Medical Center for treatment to cuts on his leg and shoulder.

Officer in Brooklyn dragged during traffic stop
The second incident involved a 67th Precinct police officer who attempted to stop a vehicle in East Flatbush, Brooklyn shortly before midnight on Saturday. According to a report by the New York Post, the vehicle was stolen and the driver struck the officer with the car before dragging him along the street. There were three occupants in the stolen car.
The car finally came to a halt on 53th Street close to Church Avenue, where the suspect fled on foot.
The officer was taken to Kings County Hospital where he is in a critical condition and is undergoing surgery, according to NYPD sources.
Police cordoned off several streets around the crime scene, while an NYPD helicopter flew above, searching for the suspect. An ESU team reportedly went to a house in Troy Avenue in East Flatbush, as well as other residences, during their search but as yet no arrests have been made.

A similar incident occurred in DeKalb County
As reported by WSB-TV in Atlanta, similar incident happened in Decatur, Georgia at the end of May, where two men were arrested after they dragged a DeKalb County Police Department officer after a traffic stop.
The 35-year-old officer, an eight-year veteran with the police department, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with head injuries.

According to Ellis Glover, a witness to the incident, the car hit the officer and the next moment he heard the police officer scream and squealing tires as the car dragged him along the street. According to a police statement, there was a struggle between the police officer and the driver which led to the officer being dragged and thrown away from the car. The two male suspects were arrested within two hours of the incident.
