It's no secret that Donald Trump and the mainstream media don't see eye to eye. After CNN was forced to retract a story earlier this week pertaining to the Russian scandal, the president was quick to fire back.

Trump on Twitter

When Donald Trump announced he was running for president, it was his comments labeling illegal immigrants as "rapists" and "murderers" that triggered the media into a frenzy.

In the months that followed, Trump and the press would engage in a heated war of words, with the former host of "The Apprentice" routinely bashing the media on the campaign trail, while referring to journalists as "terrible people" in the process. Since his election win over Hillary Clinton last November, Trump's feud with the media has only escalated, with the president calling out any reports he doesn't' agree with as "Fake News." The biggest issues facing Trump since being sworn into office has been the controversy surrounding his potential link to Russia. Earlier this week, CNN retracted a story which claimed Congress was investigating a Russian investment fund with possible ties to the president.

After the story was proven false, Trump decided to lash out during a pair of June 27 tweets.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday morning, Donald Trump ripped into CNN over their retracted story. "Fake News CNN is looking at big management changes now that they got caught falsely pushing their phony Russian stories," Trump tweeted, before adding, "Ratings way down!"

Not stopping there, Donald Trump then went on to call out other news networks that he doesn't agree with, listing them all as "fake news." "So they caught Fake News CNN cold, but what about NBC, CBS & ABC?" the president tweeted out with wonder, before asking, "What about the failing @nytimes & @washingtonpost? They are all Fake News!" Trump has made it a habit to bash most of the press who continue to hold his feet to the fire over many issues.

Missing from Trump's list of "fake news" is Fox News, as the more conservative-leaning channel continues to be a political safe space for the commander in chief.

Moving forward

While three journalists who worked on the aforementioned retracted story have since resigned from CNN, that hasn't stopped Donald Trump and his supporters from harping on the issue to use as a talking point against the mainstream media. Though every news outlet makes occasional errors in reporting, it doesn't look like the president will let the latest mistake go anytime soon.
