Tiger Woods, 41, was arrested at around 3 a.m. on Memorial Day in Jupiter, Florida on DUI charges after being seen to be driving erratically. In yet another setback in his once great career, the golf legend was taken into custody and spent around eight hours behind bars in Palm Beach County jail, a few miles from the golfers’ home. Woods made a public statement to apologize for the incident and to blame his erratic driving on a bad combination of prescription medications.
Golf legend Tiger Woods arrested
The 14-time golf champion was arrested after being pulled over on Military Trail, reportedly traveling in a direction away from his home.
According to Kristin Rightler, a spokeswoman for the Jupiter Police, the DUI arrest was based on “visuals” and a roadside test. The Boston Herald reports that police smelled alcohol on the golf legend’s breath. However, Woods reportedly became “arrogant” during the police pull over, refusing to take a Breathalyzer test. According to Rightler, it didn’t appear that Woods had been involved in an accident.
Woods was booked at 7:18 a.m. on Monday and moved to Palm Beach County jail. He was then reportedly released at 10:50 a.m. after being charged with unlawful blood-alcohol DUI. Rightler was not aware of any other details relating to the arrest, whether it involved alcohol or drugs or if there were passengers in Woods’ car at the time.

Golf giant Tiger Woods takes ‘full responsibility’ for his DUI arrest
Woods released a statement Monday night to say he takes “full responsibility” for his arrest, which he said was caused by an “unexpected reaction” to medications.
He wanted to inform the public that alcohol was not involved in the incident and that it was a mix of medications that affected him so badly. He went on to say he “fully cooperated” with authorities during the incident and thanked the Jupiter Police Department for their professionalism.
Back surgeries put an end to Tiger Woods’ golf career
As noted by the New York Daily News, Woods saw his golf career derailed after he suffered a series of back injuries last year. In April, the former golf legend had fusion surgery on his back and said on his blog recently that he felt much better and hadn’t felt that good for years. While the surgery put an end to his 2017 golfing season, Woods vowed to play professionally again in the future.
The latest incident is the first since Woods drove his SUV into a tree outside his home after Thanksgiving in 2009. That accident brought out serious revelations relating to multiple extramarital affairs, leading to his divorce from his wife Elin Nordegren, the Swedish model.
