Fatima Milanovic, 46, was arrested by Boca Raton police earlier this month in connection with an attempted diamond heist. According to a report by ABC News, Milanovic tried to steal the diamonds worth a hefty $6.7 million from ECJ Luxe in Boca Raton. Bobby Yampolski, the owner of the jewelry business, told reporters that he had spent a month talking with an overseas prospective diamond buyer, sending photos of particular diamonds. A woman, Milanovic, finally visited his store to purchase the gems. He did say he was surprised they would send a woman like Milanovic to collect the diamonds.

Yampolski had a bad feeling as Milanovic was acting nervous when they met in the store. He also said there were other red flags which made him suspicious. However, he took the woman into a vault to have a look at 11 diamond rings, worth a total of $6.7 million. Milanovic seemed very nervous and she only inspected eight out of the 11 diamond rings, telling Yampolski to “pack them up.” However, Milanovic reportedly pulled out her own packaging material ready to pack up the diamonds. According to Yampolski, this was another red flag, as they always use their own packaging for clients. Yampolski also said she kept trying to distract him whenever he turned his head.

Milanovic then tried to do a bait and switch. According to Yampolski, she opened her briefcase and grabbed the packet of stones that had been sealed and put it in the bag.
She then pulled out a similar package that looked pre-made. He said at that stage he knew exactly what was going on. He immediately got up and headed to the door, locking Milanovic inside the vault and then called the police. As reported by WESH News, Yampolski said he and his staff then watched the woman on the video cameras and saw her ripping up the packaging and trying to shove the diamonds up her skirt.
When Boca Raton police arrived they arrested her. She is now facing charges of grand theft and organized scheme to defraud. Police are also investigating a man that came into the store earlier to check if the diamonds were still there. They believe he might be an accomplice in the attempted heist. Yampolski said he is relieved to get Milanovic off the streets and was happy no one got hurt in the incident.
